Yarn Kandy: A Little Gem in Little Rock, Arkansas

Yarn Kandy: A Little Gem in Little Rock, Arkansas

Hello friends- it’s been a few years since my last post. In mid-2019, I accepted an amazing opportunity to have a job as a scientist. Free time was minimal at the start of this new journey in my life, and then the world as we know it changed with COVID-19. As things have slowly started to re-open in my small part of the world in Houston, TX, I have decided that it’s time for me to once again spend some time working on my crafts again. And so, here I am, writing my first post in over two years. I’m thrilled to be writing again, and hope that some of my followers are still around to share in my love of fiber arts!

Anyways, enough about the past. Recently, I visited Arkansas on my first “real” vacation since COVID started! This was my first time in the state, and there were many parts of it that reminded me of the woodland areas in Tennessee. I also found it really amusing that most of the city names are either mash-ups of ”Ark + name of another place” or just the name of a well-known city from another state. Most of my time was spent near the state capitol of Arkansas, Little Rock. The city itself was beautiful, and time seemed to slow down while we were there.

While we were in Little Rock, I looked up yarn shops in the area. By sheer luck, we were close to one, called Yarn Kandy! So, as one does, we stopped by the local yarn shop on our way out of the city. We had a bit of trouble finding the shop at first, due to there being many medical building near by. Nevertheless, we persisted! A bright pinkish red sign greeted us at the entrance.

Although this store was a little small in square footage, there was a large selection of yarn to choose from. I had to make a couple laps through the store to get a full appreciation of everything there was. There were several sweaters, scarves, and other items on display to inspire any fiber artist. I have been knitting more than crocheting lately, and was happy to see a few self-striping options on the shelf. Things were also separated by both brand and weight, which was a nice surprise. There were even a few local indie dyer options! In the end, I settled on a self striping green, white, and black yarn (mostly likely to knit a pair of socks).

Last but not least- there was a beautiful sweet puppy that greeted us in the store and followed us around. When eye contact was made, she would flip over and request belly rubs. The atmosphere at Yarn Kandy was incredibly warm and friendly, and I felt immediately welcomed into the space. I also really enjoyed my conversation with the owner about the local area and the yarn options. If you have a friend that isn’t a yarn person, they will still be thoroughly entertained by the shop’s adorable little dog. I truly enjoyed my time at Yarn Kandy, and look forward to another adventure in Little Rock!

Here’s a link to Yarn Kandy’s website if you want to take a virtual look at their selection.

Please note that this is not a paid or sponsored post, and is purely my opinion on an impromptu visit to this location.
