Textured Stripes Dishcloth Crochet Pattern

Textured Stripes Dishcloth Crochet Pattern

Hello friends! I’ve been having a lot of fun with adding texture to my crochet projects lately, and want to share my newest pattern: the Textured Stripes Dishcloth. This uses the front post double crochet, but it goes around a single crochet a few rows down instead of a double crochet. This creates neatly staggered stitches that form diagonal stripes across the cloth. I hope you enjoy making this as much as I do! I can’t wait to see how you use this technique in other projects (or just make lots of awesome dishcloths!).

Edging:

I did two rows of single crochet around the edge of the square, putting 3 sc in each corner to keep the edges from curling. Fasten off, weave in the ends.

On the 5th row, I’m confused on the number of sc at the start of that row. Why isn’t the Fpdc placed inside the current on a row down. This doesn’t make sense to me. Thanks!

Hi Trudy! I start with six sc at the start of the row because if the first stitch is a fpdc, it’s really difficult to make the border. I found that my best fpdc were placed two rows down instead of one down (so just past the sc across row). This was based on my tension. One row down should give the same staggered effect.

      Hope this helps!

Are you doing this left handed?
Your photos show the fpdc to the right of the previous fpdc. But when I follow your pattern the fpdc is to the left of the previous fpdc.
So my fpdc ‘textured design’ slants left while your photos slant right.
    Please help!

Hi Deirdre! Yes, I am left handed, so it will be a mirror image compared to yours. I typically create patterns that would look the same when mirrored, I apologize for any confusion this created.
