Today is the day! As many of you have seen on my Instagram and Facebook, I’ve spent a couple weeks making and testing out my new cactus coaster crochet pattern. I am really excited with how this turned out! The cactus coaster also has a “garden pot” that can store four coasters inside.
If you are short on time or don’t want to make these yourself, these are now stocked in the shop.
For less than the price of a cup of coffee, you can also get a beautifully formatted pdf of this pattern on Ravelry or in the shop.

Cactus Coaster Crochet Pattern
Body
Starting chain: CH 9.
Row 1: In second CH from your hook, SC. SC 6. In the last CH, 2 SC. Rotate your work and make 8 SC down the other side of the starting CH. (17 SC)
Row 2: CH 1 and turn. 8 SC. 2 SC in the next ST. 8 SC. (18 SC)
Row 3: CH 1 and turn. SC 7. 2 SC in the next ST. SC 2. 2 SC in the next ST. SC 7. (20 SC)
Row 4: CH 1 and turn. SC 8. 2 SC in the next ST. SC 2. 2 SC in the next ST. SC 8. (22 SC)
Row 5: CH 1 and turn. SC 8. 2 SC in the next ST. SC 4. 2 SC in the next ST. SC 8. (24 SC)
Row 6: CH 1 and turn. SC 9. 2 SC in the next ST. SC 4. 2 SC in the next ST. SC 9. (26 SC)
Row 7: Ch 1 and turn. SC 10. 2 SC in the next ST. SC 4. 2 SC in the next ST. SC 10. Ch 1 and rotate to work a bottom edge of coaster. SC 14 along the bottom. SL ST to start of row and fasten off. (42 SC, not including CH 1 spaces)
Flower Arm
Placement of the flower arm can vary depending on what side you want the flower to be on. I chose to have all of my coasters with a flower arm on the upper right side.
Row 1: Pull up a loop and CH 1. SC in the same ST. SC 3. (4 SC)
Row 2: CH 1 and turn. SC 4. (4 SC)
Row 3: CH 1 and turn. SC DEC 2 times. Fasten off. (2 SC)
I used the Easy Crochet Flower Applique Pattern from Rich Textures Crochet. I still used at G (4.5 mm) crochet hook for the flowers (magic loop tutorial HERE).
I added “spikes” to the body of the cactus after the flower arm was attached. Weave or tie on the other green yarn in random locations on the cactus body.
Garden Pot
The garden pot is crocheted as an oval, and then the sides are built up. I chose to go row by row instead of crocheting in the round.
Starting Chain: CH 12
Row 1: In second CH from hook, SC. SC 9. In last ST, make 3 SC. Rotate work and SC 9 along other side of CH. In last ST, SC 2. SL ST to connect to beginning of the row. (24 SC)
Row 2: CH 1. SC 11. SC 2 in the next ST. SC 11. SC 2 in the last ST. SL ST to connect to beginning of the row. (26 SC).
Row 3. CH 1 and turn. In front loops only, SC around. SL ST to connect to beginning fo the row (26 SC)
Front loops makes a defined line as part of the pot base. If wanted, SC in both loops as usual to have a more rounded pot edge.
Row 4: CH 1 and turn. SC around. SL ST to connect to beginning of the row. (26 SC)
Repeat Row 4 seven more times (totals to 1 of Row 3, and 8 of Row 4). Fasten off.
Curl the top 3 rows down to get a nice pot rim!
